Summary: Building a procurement quality firewall

Basic quality management certification: ISO9001 and IATF16949
ISO9001: Supply chain access threshold
Core value: Establish a standardized quality management system, covering the entire process from raw material procurement to after-sales service.
Industry case: In actual procurement scenarios, Taiyuan Heavy Industry clearly stipulates that suppliers must hold a valid ISO9001 certificate in the bushing bidding process; Jiugang Group's smelting and rolling plant also lists ISO9001 certification as a necessary qualification for participating in bidding in the procurement process.
Verification points: When reviewing the supplier's qualifications, the purchaser must focus on checking the validity period of the ISO9001 certificate to ensure that it remains valid during the procurement cycle; at the same time, the certification body should have CNAS accreditation qualifications, such as certificates issued by internationally renowned SGS, BV and other authoritative certification bodies, which can be considered valid.

ISO9001

IATF16949:  "Passport" for the automotive industry
Latest developments: Since January 2025, the new IATF16949 version 6 rules have been officially implemented, which has set off waves in the industry. Among them, the newly added remote audit requirements have brought innovative changes to the audit model, using advanced remote technical means to achieve an efficient and comprehensive audit process. At the same time, the rules strengthen the management of non-conformities, clarify stricter judgment standards and rectification requirements, and strive to improve the quality management level of the entire automotive supply chain.
Purchasing suggestions: In the process of purchasing bushings, suppliers that have passed the IATF16949 certification should be considered first. Taking the Gasgoo community procurement case as an example, many well-known companies in the industry clearly stipulate in their procurement process that suppliers must hold this certification as the basic entry threshold for cooperation. This fully demonstrates the key value of IATF16949 certification in ensuring product quality and standardizing production processes. Following this suggestion will help purchasers effectively reduce procurement risks and ensure that the purchased bushing products have reliable quality.
Material environmental certification: RoHS, REACH and FDA

RoHS and REACH: "Double Insurance" for the EU market
RoHS Directive: Restricts 6 hazardous substances such as lead and mercury, and adds phthalates control in 2019.
REACH Regulation: As an extremely important chemical management regulation of the European Union, REACH aims to protect human health and environmental safety and strictly control the entire life cycle of chemicals. It requires companies to carry out comprehensive registration of high-risk chemicals, especially substances of very high concern (SVHC). If the annual import volume of a company exceeds 1 ton, it must notify the relevant departments in accordance with regulations to ensure the compliance of the use and circulation of chemicals.
Typical case: In the industry, a chemical company suffered a heavy blow due to ignoring the requirements of REACH regulations. The bushing products exported by the company to the European Union were intercepted by customs after arriving at the EU port because the SVHC substances contained in them were not properly registered and notified. In the end, the entire batch of bushings was judged to be non-compliant with the requirements of REACH regulations and were returned. This incident not only caused the company to lose more than one million yuan in payment, but also seriously damaged its reputation in the international market. The subsequent order volume dropped sharply, and the indirect losses were difficult to estimate.

FDA certification: "Safety lock" for medical devices

Scope of application: Bushings used in medical devices must comply with FDA's biocompatibility requirements.

Certification process: Divided into Class I (low risk), Class II (medium risk), Class III (high risk), product test reports and production process documents must be submitted.

What Metal Are Bushings Made Of ?

Industry-specific certification: AS 9100, CE, CCC

AS 9100: "Gold Standard" for the Aerospace Industry

Special requirements: Strict specifications for traceability, failure analysis, etc. of aerospace parts.

Difficulty in certification: It is not easy for companies to obtain relevant quality certifications, and they usually need to undergo comprehensive and strict audits by third-party professional organizations. The audit is meticulous and covers the entire process of the product from design and development, production and manufacturing to final testing. Taking the bushing procurement project of an aviation company as an example, it has extremely strict requirements on the qualifications of suppliers and clearly stipulates that suppliers must hold AS 9100 certificates. This certificate is the quality management system standard of the aerospace and defense organizations, which means that suppliers must reach internationally recognized high levels in product design specifications, production process control, and rigorous testing procedures in order to meet the extreme demand for product quality and safety in the aviation field.
CE and CCC: Market Access "Hard Indicators"
CE certification: As a mandatory access certification for the EU market, CE certification comprehensively covers multiple key dimensions such as product safety, health and environmental protection. For bushings used in the power industry, this certification requires that products must strictly follow the EN 60598 standard to ensure that the bushings meet the EU safety thresholds in terms of electrical insulation performance, mechanical strength, and fire retardancy, to ensure the stable operation of the power system and the personal safety of users, and to comply with environmental protection regulations during production, use, and waste disposal to reduce potential harm to the environment.
CCC certification: China Compulsory Certification, as an important entry threshold for the Chinese market, is of great significance. Its certification covers a wide range of products, including wires and cables, low-voltage electrical appliances, and many other products related to national economy, people's livelihood, and public safety. According to relevant regulations, products that have not obtained CCC certification are strictly prohibited from being sold in the domestic market. This certification system aims to ensure that products meet a series of basic standards such as national safety, health, and environmental protection, protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers from the source, and maintain the norms and order of the market.
Testing and performance certification: ASTM, DIN and GB standards

ASTM and  DIN: International general test specifications
ASTM standards: For example, ASTM D2240 is a standard method for testing rubber hardness. It uses a specific hardness tester to perform a press-in test on rubber materials under specified conditions to accurately measure the hardness value of rubber and provide key data for evaluating the applicability of rubber materials. ASTM B117 focuses on salt spray corrosion testing, which simulates the salt spray environment that the product may encounter in actual use. The sample is placed in a test chamber filled with salt spray for a certain period of time, and the corrosion resistance of the sample is judged by observing the corrosion on the surface of the sample. This is of great significance for evaluating the durability of the bushing in harsh environments.
DIN standard: German industrial standard, as a standard system with high international recognition, has extremely strict quality control of industrial products. Among them, DIN 1552-1 makes detailed and clear provisions for the press-fitting requirements of railway vehicle bushings, from the press-fitting equipment parameters, operation procedures, to the performance indicators that the bushing should achieve after the final press-fitting is completed, which provides a reliable reference for the production and installation of railway vehicle bushings.

Domestic standards: GB and JB/T
GB/T 6804: Radial crushing strength test of sintered metal bushings.
JB/T 7292: Technical conditions for internal combustion engine bushings, divided into rocker arm bushings, camshaft bushings and other sub-standards.
Verification of certification validity: Four practical methods

Certificate query: To ensure that the obtained certification certificate is authentic and valid, you can query it through the official website of the authoritative certification body. Taking the widely recognized CNAS (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment) and IAF (International Accreditation Forum) as examples, there is generally a special certificate query entrance on the homepage of their official website. After entering the query page, accurately enter the certificate number to be verified, and the system will quickly feedback the detailed information of the certificate, including certificate status, issuance date, validity period, etc., to verify the authenticity of the certificate.
On-site audit: Go deep into the production workshop, carefully check the model, specifications and operating status of the production equipment, and confirm that it is accurately matched with the production capacity and process standards required by the certification scope. At the same time, a comprehensive inventory of various testing instruments is carried out, including their accuracy calibration records, functional integrity, etc., to ensure that the performance of the testing instruments is fully consistent with the product testing requirements covered by the certification, and to ensure the stability and reliability of product quality from the hardware facility level.
Sampling test: In order to ensure the authority and fairness of product quality, we have specially commissioned third-party laboratories with extensive credibility in the industry, such as the internationally renowned SGS (SGS Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd.) and HQTS (Hansmann Group), to conduct strict retests on the purchased bushing products. Based on internationally recognized standards and specifications, third-party laboratories use advanced testing equipment and scientific testing methods to conduct detailed tests on randomly selected product samples from multiple dimensions such as dimensional accuracy, material properties, physical strength and chemical stability, and issue professional, detailed and legally binding test reports.
Supplier evaluation: Comprehensively sort out the supplier's past customer cases and deeply analyze the product performance in actual application scenarios. For example, a large manufacturing company once purchased and used bushings from suppliers who did not strictly implement the quality certification process. During the operation of the equipment, the bushing suddenly failed, causing the key production equipment to shut down. After emergency investigation and repair, not only did it consume a lot of manpower and material resources, but the final repair cost was more than 500,000 yuan, and the company's production line was shut down for several days, causing immeasurable economic losses and production delays. Through such real cases, the actual impact of supplier product quality can be intuitively and profoundly evaluated, providing strong support for procurement decisions.
Summary: Building a procurement quality firewall

When purchasing bushings, it is necessary to use "basic certification + industry certification + material certification + test certification" as a framework and select a certification combination in combination with actual application scenarios. For example:
Automotive industry: IATF16949 (quality management) + RoHS (environmental protection) + ASTM (performance testing).
Aerospace: AS 9100 (industry specification) + REACH (material safety) + DIN (manufacturing standard).
Medical equipment: FDA (biocompatibility) + ISO13485 (medical device management).
By systematically evaluating certification qualifications, purchasers can avoid quality risks and reduce subsequent maintenance costs. Remember: certification is not the end, but the starting point of quality control.
